    I’m awaiting their follow up vid for PS5 quality mode settings for the 3070. Hopefully we can run it at a stable 60 fps 1440p at least since we can get about 90fps on a 3070 at the equivalent PS5 performance mode.

      They love improvements in graphics tech and that’s why we bother with them.

      Without them, benchmarks would entirely and solely be about higher FPS numbers

      It’s an example of a game done right imo. Bleeding edge visuals that scale down. Great writing, acting, art direction and gameplay. It all comes together so well; it’s no surprise it will be commended for years to come.

        Is it better than Control? That created a lot op hype at the time, but for me it was… fine, I guess? Not bad, but didn’t exactly blow me away.

          Different kind of game but it’s very refined and imo is one of the strongest recent AAA arguments for games as art.

          What recent games have blown you away? For me it’s been cyberpunk overdrive, portal rtx, and this game.

      Consoles require it all the time and nobody bats an eye but when equivalent PC hardware requires it it’s a problem? If you don’t like it buy a GPU that’s significantly faster than a console then.

          Because unlike 20 years ago 5 year old hardware are not outdated. 5 Year old hardware are more than capable enough to do almost everything a PC needs to do. 20 years ago a 5 year gap in hardware means 1000+% improvement. Now 5 year gap hardly gives 100% improvement but costs 1000 dollars more.

            Jensen already said that gpus are already reaching peak raster performance, yeah they could givde you more performance nxt gen at a cost of higher power draw and money

            Yea because moores law is kicking in thats why gpu now are using ai to improve performance like frame gen, technology doesnt move in a straight line.

              That’s exactly why people are upset about these. Because 5 year old GPUs are perfectly fine today and still will be fine for 2-3 years as long as your demand is not that high. The hardware built into GTX 1080 still is capable of handling modern AAA games at playable framerates easily. This is the reason a lot of people are upset when a new game is not optimized for older hardware. I get it is old and all but despite all that it is still a working perfectly fine for everything else other than that unoptimized game…

              People have good reason to get upset about it. Not everyone wants or have the capability to update their PC every few years. And companies asking people to update the hardware for a problem they themselves created is pretty stupid.

                the game has RT enabled by default as per Digital Foundry, it needs mesh shaders also as per the developer. The developers already published whats the min and recommended specs for their game, and if you bought it not knowing that your gpu support it, thats on you.

      People really need to stop thinking of upscaling as “base 540p res”. Just treat it like any other graphical setting i.e. a tradeoff between performance and visuals.

      Complaining about poor performance without upscaling is like forcing 8x MSAA and then complaining about unoptimized framerates. Yes it looks the best but at what cost?

        I’m personally not used to a graphical setting utterly destroying image quality in a way that makes a ray traced game look worse than games release in 2004.

          which have you had this issue with? I havent seen this be a problem since the first DLSS iterations back when the rtx 2000 released. Performance and balanced seem pretty good. A bit better than using a lower resolution for a less gain on fps in comparison.

      It’s super funny to go back and revisit AMD’s coverage of how important it is to have these hardware features and how it’s going to make these incredible experiences possible if developers will only leap and embrace them fully instead of worrying about fallback paths etc.

      They even got in a literal “don’t wait, just buy it” in literally as many words, but for some reason the tech community didn’t melt down about that??? Contrast Steve’s reaction to Roy with Steve’s reaction to Tom…

      Remedy has been upsampling since Alan Wake 1. Quantum Break required it and more recently Control had softened native image quality as well, which is why dlss 1.9 and later 2.0 were better than native there. So this is a case where the developers are actually authoring the materials with upscaling in mind, vs just making an non optimized pos and using dlss to call it a day.

        Where did the idea that it was only marketed as a free performance boost come from? Pretty sure if you go back to 2018 the very first presentations focused on how it was going to make more intensive effects like raytracing possible.

    Look at that upvote/downvote ratio.

    People still BIG MAD the game looks stunning, plays and runs well, eh? They were so looking forward to being able to tear a piece of flesh out of Alan Wake 2.

    I’d argue it’s a strong contender for the most technically sound launch of any AAA title in 2023.

      I don’t know why they want this game to fail. At first I’m very skeptical of the game but now, with reading some reviews and digital foundry’s video the game is well polished than the recent game release.

      Not going to buy the game though. Not my type of game.

        Epic could have easily made up their investment + profit from releasing it on multiple store fronts. Arguably faster than EGS exclusive. Epic just wants to raise usage of EGS and hopefully get more game sales from other than AL2

      I distinctly remember when PS4 gen stopped having cross gen games and the sentiments were similar

      People in the low-mid range don’t care about optimisation as much as being able to run games on their PC. As tech progresses, they are forced to upgrade

      This is very different from the higher end who look forward to upgrading their pc for newer tech

      And when this transition happens, on the lower mid range, the tradeoff in visuals/performance is the most underwhelming as the hardware is lower spec than consoles and hence visuals more of a fallback than developers paying special attention. e.g. 2007 games targeting ps3,x360 looking like poop and running like poop at low settings vs older games

      I have 1440p Monitor with 3080. Your video helped me enjoy RT, but also hit 55-60 fps for my VRR monitor to kick in properly

      Upvoted 🤙 helped me out a ton. I can’t go without RT, the lighting is next gen

    On a 8gb vram GPU there’s a bizzare reverse scaling effect when upsampling to 2160p because there’s not quite enough vram. 720p render resolution has more consistent textures compared to higher render resolutions and the higher you go, the more frequently low resolution textures show up

    I think the requirements sheet having a separate requirements list for “RT” without specifying that it meant hardware RT/PT is where the problem started. Nobody was aware that it’d have some sort of UE5 style software RT at all settintgs, which does justify the insane system requirements.

      A lot of games use software rt for gi, it’s required for games like this to look this good. Software rt isn’t some sort of fps killer or anything like that.

    reason now im playing with console, too much tinkering play on PC, for me PC is only for Emulation and that its, im not play games on PC, no time for hassle after long day working and want enjoy games after work

      Yeah 2 clicks into the options menu to set desired graphics preset between low/medium/high is way too much tinkering especially when you consider that on a PS5 you are essentially doing the same thing going into the options menu to choose between performance/quality mode.
